On January 31, 2008, the CHAMP Commission held its first major community event -- the CHAMP Community Kick-Off and Fund-Raising Breakfast, featuring Keli McGregor, President of the Colorado Rockies, and Sonny Lubick, former Colorado State University Head Football Coach. The CHAMP Commission honored Sonny with the first annual 'Sonny Lubick Coach of Character Award.' Future awards will be presented to one outstanding youth coach of character per year.
